Chocolate and children go hand in hand, and there will be many times when they drop this sticky substance on the carpet. Preparing for these chocolate spills will guarantee that you understand how to clean the carpets correctly. If you are in any doubt what to do you, contact us for help and advice.

As soon as you notice the chocolate on the carpet, you need to remove the excess with a butter knife, ensuring that you do not rub it further into the carpet. You also need to ensure that you do not damage the carpet by scrapping at the fibres. Once the excess has been removed, you should rub alcohol onto the area, but be careful and wear gloves.

Next use the back of a spoon to press the cloth into the alcohol soaked area, and gently massage the stain until the cloth has absorbed the chocolate. Mix some warm water with mild carpet shampoo and wet the stain. Blot the area until it is dry, which will remove a massive amount of the chocolate stain, if not all of it from your carpet.

If you are happy with the results, you can use a towel to absorb the remaining liquid, and allow your carpet to dry before vacuuming the area.  If it is extremely damp, you can weigh a towel own, and leave to soak overnight. Once your carpet has been cleaned of chocolate, you may want to consider calling the professionals to finish the job.
